Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you argue against building homes in the countryside, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons. The points about food production and the countryside’s value as a peaceful place to visit address the issue, while the Mumbai and Toronto examples help support them. This meets the task well, though the two reasons are not developed equally: the tourism point is explained mainly through a general description and survey claim, rather than showing in detail why protecting that lifestyle should outweigh the need for housing. The conclusion also introduces a concession about housing shortages but expresses the proposed solution unclearly. To strengthen the response further, explain how housing needs could be met without sacrificing rural land and make the final position more precise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. The progression from food supply to the countryside’s recreational value is logical, and phrases such as “Adding to this” signal a new point. However, some linking is mechanical or confusing. The opening uses “While” and “whereas” together, and the conclusion’s “despite of … and does lead to solution” makes the relationship between the ideas difficult to follow. References such as “this change” and “this specific area” could also be more precise. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the claim it supports; this would make the overall progression easier to follow without relying on formulaic transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “economic benefits,” “scarcity,” “inflation,” “hustle bustle,” and “future generations.” These choices show an effort to discuss consequences beyond simply stating an opinion. However, inaccurate word choice and collocation are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “outskirts lifestyle,” “food product,” “big chunk of countryside,” and “different lifestyle of human nature” are unclear or awkward in context. There are also word-form and spelling issues, such as “individual” where a plural is needed and “are” for “area.” Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than adding more elaborate wording. For example, use established phrases such as “rural way of life” and “food prices” to express your ideas clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “While” and “whereas,” and the main argument is generally understandable. However, control is inconsistent: several sentences contain errors in agreement, articles, plurals, or clause structure. For example, “The Rapid growth … has brought … but also have” shifts incorrectly from singular to plural agreement, while “Countryside is the lifeline” needs an article. The sentence beginning “In the conclusion, despite of having…” is also structurally incomplete, making the final point hard to interpret. Some punctuation choices, especially commas joining complete clauses, further affect clarity. Practise building accurate sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check that each sentence has a clear subject and verb and that agreement remains consistent.
