Student answer (Band 6.0)

Undoubtedly, population is growing rapidly in many parts of the world. As a result, governments require more space to build new houses to satisfy their citizens housing need. However, only spaces left for building new houses is in the countryside, but some people argue that protecting the countryside area is more important than building residential properties. I will explain that why i believe protecting rural area is as important as bulding new houses for people.

To begin with, major portion of population lives in the urban areas. Due to which, residential areas, roads and other infrastructure is becoming conjusted within cities. Over population in cities causing various problems for residents such as traffic, pollution, high living costs because of demand, and many more. Therefore, houses should be constructed in the countryside areas because there is enough free land available to utilize properly. This will help people to save money and enjoy effective lifestyle because prices of land, and living costs are comparatively less in these areas.

On the other hand, countryside area mostly includes farmlands and forests. Firstly forests plays and important role for wildlife and helps to maintain ecosystem's balance. Trees consume carbon-di-oxide and releases oxygen, which is very important for human being and overall environment. Secondly, farmlands are important to produce food products and grow crops for humans, which cannot be negotiate. Therefore, governments should set some rules before allowing citizens to cut trees and build houses to protect the envrionment.

To conclude, although residents need more residential spaces due to growing populations in order to saftisfy their needs and there is enough free space available in rural areas. Governments should still set some standards before giving permissions to public to build houses to protect the environment.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you argue that housing is needed but that rural development should be controlled to protect the environment. You address both sides with relevant points, including urban congestion and living costs, alongside the value of forests and farmland. This meets the task well. However, the balance of your opinion could be expressed more precisely: “as important as” suggests equal priority, while your conclusion appears to favour building only under restrictions. Some support is also general; for example, explain how housing could be placed without damaging productive farmland or wildlife habitats. A more explicit, consistently stated judgement and fuller development of this practical balance would strengthen the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting rural housing, a contrasting paragraph on conservation, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the other hand,” and “To conclude” help readers track the argument. Some connections are less smooth or precise. “Due to which” begins a fragment rather than linking the cause to the previous sentence, and the shift from the benefits of rural housing to the need for restrictions could be tied together more explicitly. The conclusion also repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. More varied, accurate referencing and clearer links between claims and explanations would make progression more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “infrastructure,” “ecosystem’s balance,” “farmlands,” and “residential properties.” These choices help communicate the main ideas, and attempts at more formal vocabulary are evident. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors reduce precision: “citizens housing need,” “conjusted,” “cannot be negotiate,” and “saftisfy” are examples. Some expressions are also vague or unnatural, such as “enjoy effective lifestyle” and “free land available to utilize properly.” Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling and word forms carefully. Greater precision in describing development and conservation would help you express the argument more fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, using clauses with “because,” “although,” and “which,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. However, errors in agreement, sentence construction, articles, and verb forms occur across the response. For example, “only spaces left … is” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “forests plays” and “Trees … releases” show agreement problems. “Due to which” is not a complete sentence in its current position, and “I will explain that why” uses an incorrect clause pattern. Capitalisation of “I” is also inconsistent. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, and revise complex clauses so that they remain grammatically complete.
