In many places, new homes are needed, but the only space available for building them is in the countryside. Some people believe it is more important to protect the countryside and not build new homes there.
What is your opinion about this?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.0)
With Rising population, bulding homes is a significant concern, As there has been a a debate that new bulding should be constructed in country side rather that in cities. while others argue that there is already mass explotication of resources , the country side should be protected.
I agree to this to a certain extent due to rising deamnd in housing sector. I will discuss my opinion later in this essay.
on the one hand, the global population is increasing rapidly while the housing in the cities are already conjusted and no new places are left for ne construction. Also considering the rent prices in cities it would be very hard for young genertaion to live on their own. Due to this reason i believe that the new housing project should be developed in urban areas but , keeping in mind that the layouts should be in a way that it matches the country side decourm. for instance there should be no high rise bulding instead few colony houses where thhe can occupy maximum area and can aslo be connected to people.
While on other hands, many argue that bulding new house in country side can have negative effects on their enviorment and tradition. constuction of sky scrapers and big factories can contibute to a wide range of pollutions which may impact the local farming. for example a village in china started bulding new factories that later altert the air quality of the village and many of them had to be admited to the hospital.
to summarize, bulding new hosuing in urban areas should be seconday opnioin and should be executed in a very sustaniable way .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a relevant response and state a qualified position: “I agree to this to a certain extent,” then discuss housing demand and environmental harm. The examples about city rents and a village affected by factories help illustrate these concerns. However, the position becomes difficult to follow: you first argue that new housing should be developed in urban areas, but the conclusion says this should be a “secondary opinion,” without clearly explaining whether countryside development should be allowed. The discussion also shifts between countryside homes, urban housing, factories and high-rise buildings, so the central comparison is not fully developed. Make your opinion explicit from the introduction through to the conclusion, and explain more directly when, if ever, countryside construction is acceptable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a concluding sentence. The paragraphs broadly separate housing pressures from environmental concerns, and phrases such as “on the one hand” and “for example” signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear. The first body paragraph moves from city congestion and rents to countryside-style layouts, while the conclusion introduces the unclear idea that urban housing should be a “secondary opinion.” Some linking phrases are awkward or repetitive, including “While on other hands,” and the opening sentence contains several ideas joined without clear boundaries. Organise each paragraph around one main claim, use transitions that accurately show contrast, and make the conclusion directly resolve the question.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “housing sector,” “congested,” “environment,” “air quality” and “local farming,” which gives you some useful range for discussing the issue. However, the range is limited and frequent spelling and word-choice errors make parts of the response harder to understand, such as “explotication,” “deamnd,” “conjusted” and “sustaniable.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “country side decourm” does not clearly convey the intended idea, and “secondary opinion” is not an appropriate phrase for describing a policy priority. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations such as “housing demand,” “urban congestion” and “environmental impact.” Prefer precise wording over attempts at complex-sounding phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example using “while” to contrast population growth with limited housing and “that” to introduce a relative clause. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and punctuation can make the meaning difficult to follow. In “the housing in the cities are already conjusted,” the subject and verb do not agree; “a a debate” contains an article error; and the opening has inappropriate capitalisation and comma use. The sentence beginning “for instance” also has unclear pronoun reference and faulty construction. Practise building shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas with accurate subordinate clauses. Proofread for agreement, articles and full stops.
