Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, the population has increased many folds. As a result, people need new homes to live in. However, it has been observed that cities are already flooded with a number of residential blocks and there are very little places left in cities to build new homes. Additionally, the rural areas has space for construction but people believe that it is crucial to protect countryside by not building new homes there. Before stating my opinion, this essay will analyze why we need to build new homes and what the consequences can be of building new homes in the countryside.

The world's population is incresing day by day. Moreover, previously people prefer to life in a joint family system. However, now a considerable number of families adopt nuclear family system. There are several underlying reasons like competition between the families, seeking privacy and not willing to split the expenses. Such approach requires more housing units and with the increase in demand of new houses, cities are almost congested with housing society and there is no space left in cities for constructing new residential units.

A considerable number of people believe that it is not a good approach to build new houses in the countryside. As cities are already facing a number of pollutions like noise and air pollution; in addition, if we built new residential societies in the rural areas there will be detrimental effects on it. The countryside is generally a quiet place with full of nature and to some extent it supports our ecosystem. If more people move towards countryside they will cause environmental pollution which eventually effects our nature. Furthermore, to build a residential block government has to cut a substantial number of trees. To illustrate, in Pakistan, in past years the government gave license to a number of builders to build housing society in rural areas and for that they cut the trees and stop the natural flow of water. As a result, every year during moonsoon season people has to face urban and rural flooding.

From my perspective, we should protect our nature. Moreover, the government should take measures to control the population of the country so that we do not need to build more houses. Additionally, it is the government responsibility to not give license to the builders for the countryside so that we can preserve our wildlife too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you favour protecting the countryside, and you address the competing need for housing by explaining population growth and the shift towards nuclear families. The discussion of tree removal, disrupted water flow and flooding in Pakistan gives relevant support, so the response meets the task well. However, the housing-demand explanation is more developed than the alternatives to building in rural areas, and the proposal to control population is asserted rather than explained. The claim that cities have no space is also broad and would benefit from a specific example or qualification. To strengthen the response further, develop practical alternatives, such as building upwards or reusing vacant urban land, and explain how these could meet housing needs while protecting rural environments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from housing demand to environmental costs and then to your recommendation. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore” and “As a result” help show relationships between points. At times, however, the connections feel mechanical, and the introduction promises an analysis of consequences without clearly previewing your final position. Some references are also imprecise: “it” in “it supports our ecosystem” could refer to the countryside or nature, while “Such approach” does not clearly identify the preceding idea. A more direct thesis and clearer referencing would make the progression smoother and more flexible.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “residential blocks,” “ecosystem,” “environmental pollution” and “natural flow of water.” Some less common expressions are attempted, but several choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “increased many folds,” “cities are flooded with” residential blocks, and “a number of pollutions.” There are also spelling errors, including “incresing” and “moonsoon,” which reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to use familiar collocations reliably, and check spelling carefully; for example, describe cities as “densely built-up” rather than “flooded” with housing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “However,” “if” and “so that.” This allows you to explain causes and consequences, and the main argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms. For example, “the rural areas has space” should be “rural areas have space,” and “people has to face” should be “people have to face.” In “if we built new residential societies,” the conditional form would be more consistent as “if we build.” There are also awkward sentence patterns, such as “The countryside is generally a quiet place with full of nature.” Review agreement and conditional structures, and edit sentences for complete, natural grammatical patterns.
