Student answer (Band 4.0)
In the growing world, there is a considerable debate over whether more houses should be built with the increasing number of population on the countryside or it is imperative to maintain the sustainable environment by not damaging it with the demands of human. As per my opinion, although natural and green environment plays a crucial role in our lives but a place to live for human is equally important and I believe in order to meet an increasing demand for individuals new houses should be built along countryside by adhering environmental laws.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You state a clear opinion: housing is important, and new homes should be built in the countryside if environmental laws are followed. This directly addresses the question and gives a relevant qualification. However, the response stops after the introductory position: it does not develop reasons, provide examples, or explain how construction could be balanced with protecting nature. The task also requires at least 250 words, and this response is substantially below that minimum. As a result, the main ideas remain very limited and the task is only minimally addressed. To improve, explain at least two reasons for your view, support them with specific examples, and consider the consequences of building or restricting development.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable progression from introducing the debate to stating your own position. The contrast signalled by “although” also helps show that you have considered both housing needs and environmental protection. However, the entire response is one paragraph, and there is no development beyond the opening statement, so the reader cannot follow a sequence of supporting points or a conclusion. The long opening sentence also carries several ideas at once. Organise a full response into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for your reasons and examples, and a conclusion. Use clear links between those points rather than relying on one extended sentence.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt some topic-appropriate vocabulary, including “sustainable environment,” “crucial role,” and “environmental laws,” and these choices make your general position understandable. However, several expressions are awkward or imprecise, such as “in the growing world,” “number of population,” and “demands of human.” These collocation and word-form problems limit the naturalness and precision of the vocabulary. The response is also too brief to demonstrate a broader range of language for discussing housing, development, and conservation. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “population growth,” “human needs,” and “protect the natural environment,” and use more specific terms when explaining your reasons.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt a complex sentence to present a balanced view, using “although” and “but,” and the main meaning can be understood. However, the sentence is overloaded, and the clause beginning “although” is not punctuated or structured cleanly with the following contrast. There are also problems with articles and number, for example “a place to live for human” and “an increasing demand for individuals.” The short response provides little evidence of control across a range of sentence forms. Improve accuracy by separating the contrast into two sentences or using a clear “although …, …” structure, and check articles, singular/plural forms, and agreement when revising.
