Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr Said,
I want to inform you that I would like to spend a period of six month in the head office of our company, and I will appreciate if you can help me arrange it.
The reason for this request is that I see that in order to develop our intern communication strategy for the quality of the services provided to our local customers, we must have a clear vision about the process of the exchange of informations between the head office and our local subsiduary. This will benefits us to understand how our client's reports being examined and on which measures they work with, which will lead us to tailor our work to be consistent and offer better insights to our clients.
Otherwise, during this period when I will be in Dubai, my two assistants will handle my tasks, as now they have all the experience and tools to work with to get the job done effectively, plus I will be doing online meetings with my team twice a week, to keep track of the tasks deliveries to make sure we are on schedule, moreover I will be available on phone or email if anyone needs something.
And to make sure that this request got approved by the direction, I will need your help to arrange it and explain to them the importance of this step for our company and also to improve our position in the market. I ask you if you can prepare a meeting with the direction for this matter and explain to the director this measure beforehand, so we can discuss the details and answer any issue that may raise during the meeting.
I appreciate your help with this and I will be waiting for your response.
Yours sincerely,
Nabil

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter covers all three requirements clearly. You explain why the placement would help improve the local team’s understanding of information exchange and client-report processes, describe how your assistants and regular online meetings would maintain the work, and make a specific request for help arranging a meeting with the director. These ideas are relevant and generally well developed, with the business benefit made explicit. The request for managerial support is especially clear. To make the response even more complete, clarify what you hope to learn or achieve during the six months beyond gaining a clearer understanding of processes, and connect that outcome more directly to a practical benefit for the company. Overall, the purpose and requested action remain clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: it introduces the request, explains its rationale, outlines how duties will be covered, and closes by asking for assistance. Paragraphing supports these distinct functions, and the opening and closing are appropriate for a formal letter. Linking expressions such as “The reason for this request” and “during this period” help guide the reader. However, some transitions are less natural or are used mechanically: “Otherwise” does not clearly introduce the work-coverage plan, while “moreover” and “And” create a somewhat crowded sequence in the final paragraphs. The long sentences also make some relationships between points harder to follow. Use simpler transitions and divide the densest sentences to make the progression more effortless.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of workplace vocabulary, including “head office,” “local customers,” “online meetings,” and “position in the market,” so the purpose is easy to understand. There are also attempts at more specific business language, such as “exchange of informations” and “tailor our work,” although some choices are inaccurate or unnatural. For example, “intern communication strategy” does not clearly express the intended idea, and “tasks deliveries” is an awkward collocation. Spelling errors such as “subsiduary” and “benefits” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than adding complexity: “internal communication,” “subsidiary,” and “task progress” would fit these contexts better. Meaning remains clear despite these slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response includes both straightforward statements and longer complex sentences, for example the explanation beginning “in order to develop” and the sentence describing how the assistants will handle the work. This gives the letter some structural variety, and the intended meaning is generally clear. However, some errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. Examples include “This will benefits us,” “how our client's reports being examined,” and “any issue that may raise”; these need forms such as “will benefit,” “how our clients’ reports are examined,” and “any issue that may arise.” Several sentences also join many clauses with commas, making punctuation and structure less controlled. Review agreement and verb patterns, and split long sentences where needed.
