Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Manager,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to make a request to work in our company's head office located in Canada.
There are a couple of reasons for making this request. Firstly, the main reason is that I want to improve communication skills in English, in which sometimes I face difficulties. This will not only help me to improve my skills but also benefit the company during international client meetings. Moreover, I always have dreamed to learn about foreign traditions and cultures. Hence, by staying there for six months I will get that exposure.
Although I know it will be hard for me to fulfil responsibilities, I will try to manage my work by scheduling additional meetings with my colleagues. In addition, if there is any emergencies, then I will also work according to Indian time zone.
I would really appreciate it if you can grant to work in our head office. I am eagerly waiting for your response.
Yours faithfully,
Dhruv Bavadiya

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain the motivation for the request (improving English skills and cultural exposure), propose a plan for your workload (scheduling meetings and working across time zones), and ask for the manager's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific details regarding your current role or the nature of the projects you would be handling in Canada, which would further develop your ideas and demonstrate a more professional level of engagement with the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', 'Although', and 'In addition' to guide the reader through your arguments. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter. While the flow is generally smooth, some of the cohesive devices are slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your linking phrases and ensure that the transition between your work management plan and the request for help is more seamless.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'fulfil responsibilities', 'exposure', and 'grant'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and awkward phrasings, such as 'I always have dreamed to learn' (should be 'I have always dreamed of learning') and 'grant to work' (should be 'grant my request to work'). The vocabulary is functional and conveys your meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on collocations and more natural phrasing would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'in which sometimes I face difficulties' (awkward relative clause), 'if there is any emergencies' (subject-verb agreement error: 'are' instead of 'is'), and 'I am eagerly waiting for your response' (which is slightly informal; 'I look forward to hearing from you' is more standard). Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures.
