Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear sir,
Hope you are doing well, I am writing this letter for taking permission related with new promotion. Yesterday I applied for supervisor position. I am waiting for this position from long time but they have some requirements for this post. Firstly, I need to move Canada for at least six months and secondly I need to work in main office of company.
Moreover, India and Canada both countries have different time zone. I am sure you are worried about my part of work, but with your permission I can take-care of this work same as online work from home employee.
Furthermore, I really wanted to grow in your company and wanted to become a important part of this corporation. I hope you will recognize my talent and accept my request and shift my job code work from office to online work. I am sure I will handle all work from the Canada.
Regards,
Harkaran Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points: explaining the reason for the move, proposing a solution for the workload, and requesting assistance. However, the response is slightly confused regarding the purpose of the letter. You mention a 'new promotion' and 'supervisor position' as the reason for the move, which deviates from the prompt's instruction to simply ask to work in the head office for six months. This makes the purpose feel slightly disjointed. While the ideas are relevant, they could be developed with more professional detail to better suit the formal context of a request to a manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Firstly' to link ideas. However, the flow is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the promotion application and the request to move to Canada is not entirely smooth. Referencing is generally clear, but the overall logical progression could be improved by ensuring each paragraph builds more naturally on the previous one. The tone is consistent, though the structure of the sentences within paragraphs could be more varied to improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the sophistication expected at higher bands. You use some repetitive phrasing, such as 'work' and 'position'. There are also some minor inaccuracies in collocation, such as 'taking permission' (should be 'seeking permission') and 'from long time' (should be 'for a long time'). While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to basic, functional language. To improve, try to incorporate more professional, business-oriented collocations and avoid repeating the same words in close proximity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'I am writing this letter for taking permission', 'move Canada' (missing preposition 'to'), and 'from the Canada' (incorrect article usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases throughout. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your score.
