Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Manager,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am thankful for this opportunity to visit our head office. I am writing this letter to request your support for my upcoming trip to head office at Colombia.
I will be happy to meet in-person my Junior and the new hire for the first time. I will be using this trip to train my juniors and implement improved practices to meet the changing needs of our organization. Not only does this help us to bond as a team but it also improves my connection with operation team with whom I always communicate virtually.
I will be doing remote work during this 6 months, Where I can work while travelling as well. Please be assured my work will not be impacted while I am training my juniors.
As part of of our company policy the request should be made by manager to HR department. Hence, I would appreciate it if you could help me in arranging the flight and accommodation for this trip. I am eager to know your recommendation you would like to implement.
Yours faithfully,
Vidhi Shah

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining the reason for the visit, outlining how work will be managed, and requesting assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, you mention working remotely while traveling, but you do not explain how you will handle time zone differences or specific project handovers. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are more detailed and practical. The purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader understands your request, which satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Hence' and 'Not only does this help', to connect ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, though the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different stages of your request.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'organization', 'virtually', and 'accommodation'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'meet in-person my Junior' (should be 'meet my junior in person') and 'trip to head office at Colombia' (should be 'in Colombia'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word order and prepositions. You have successfully used formal language suitable for a business context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'As part of of our company policy' (repetition) and 'I would appreciate it if you could help me in arranging' (slightly awkward phrasing). Some sentences, such as 'Where I can work while travelling as well', are grammatically incomplete as they are fragments. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely cause confusion for the reader. To improve, focus on sentence boundary control and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed with full grammatical accuracy.
