Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear manager,
I am writing this letter to show my interest working in headquarter at USA location.
First and foremost reason for this request is my mother has some serious health issues. Secondly, doctor advise her to take full rest until she recovers her full ability. As I am the only child of my parents, I would like to take this responsibility on urgent basis and I have to travel USA to take care of her. Hence, I would like to stand with my family in this hurdle.
Furthermore, I am already working on the sales position, my responsibilities can be done regardless of physically present at office. Apart from that, our organization share data on all the locations, where companies offices are. Moreover, I also talk with my colleagues to take care of my office task. Thus, I am taking all the responsibility to finish all my tasks in timely manner with full potential
I am requesting you to not only start my transfer request as soon as possible but also give me authority to take my work laptop with me during this requested tenture. If you have any concern regarding it feel free to reach out to me.
Yours sincerely,
Zalak Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the plan for work coverage, and the request for assistance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. The explanation regarding the mother's health is clear, but the explanation of how work will be handled is slightly vague and repetitive. For example, stating 'my responsibilities can be done regardless of physically present' is a bit unclear in terms of actual workflow. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it leans slightly towards being overly direct in the final paragraph. To improve, ensure that the explanation of work coverage is more concrete and professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into paragraphs, each addressing a specific part of the prompt. Cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Furthermore', and 'Moreover' are used to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly misused, such as 'Thus, I am taking all the responsibility', which does not follow logically from the previous sentence about colleagues. The referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band. The paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter, helping the reader follow the progression of the request.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'working in headquarter at USA location' (should be 'the headquarters in the USA') and 'requested tenture' (should be 'tenure'). While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday terms. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise professional terminology and avoid repetitive phrasing like 'take care of' and 'take responsibility'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the USA', 'the headquarters'), prepositions, and verb forms ('doctor advise her' should be 'the doctor advised her'). Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are occasionally problematic. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, especially regarding articles and verb tenses, would significantly improve the quality of your writing.
