Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr Conor,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to formally request to allow me to visit and work at our head office for six months.
Since I am become a part of management team, I wouldn't be able to visit our head office for the training purposes. As you aware about my management skills, I want to sharpen and willing to learn more about management skill from the experienced person.
If you worried about my work which got delay because of my trip to head office, please relief your self and allow me to hand over my work to our assistant manager Kate. I am feeling confidant that she should be able to look after the work in my absence.
I would request you to arrange a meeting including Kate, me and yourself and help me to explain the situation and handover my work to her.
I am looking forward to get the positive response from you and i hope you like my suggestion about Kate.
Your sincerely,
Kevin Peter

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state the purpose of the request, propose a solution for your workload by suggesting Kate as a replacement, and ask for a meeting to facilitate the handover. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal business request. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of why you want to work at the head office is a bit vague, focusing only on 'sharpening skills' without specific details. To reach a higher band, ensure your reasons are more fully developed and professional in tone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Since' and 'If you worried', to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and some mechanical transitions. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall progression could be smoother if you used a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more naturally rather than relying on simple sentence structures.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'formally request', 'management team', and 'handover'. However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'Since I am become' (should be 'Since I have become'), 'please relief your self' (should be 'please rest assured'), and 'feeling confidant' (should be 'confident'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more professional business collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'I am become' (tense error), 'As you aware' (missing verb 'are'), 'work which got delay' (passive voice error), and 'I am looking forward to get' (should be 'to getting'). While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb tenses, and the proper use of gerunds after certain phrases.
