Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you in a excellent health. I am writing this letter to request you to kindly grant me permission to work for half a year in our company's head office in Paris.
To comprehend, the reason for the application is, recently, a couple of weeks back we enrolled our studio for the "Fashion Pavilion Design' competition and indeed it is a big opportunity which would lend us large scale projects in future. Moreover, the given site location is at 5km distance from our head office, so it would be easier to commute daily. In order to win this competition I feel it is essential to study the context and architectural facades in the vicinity which would require a prerequisite time duration of atleast 6 months.
Meanwhile, I have prepared the team here and provided autonomy to Elsa to look after the projects in my absence and coordinate with me on daily basis. Thus, I will make sure aa a senior consultant the flaw is not disrupted at all.
Lastly, it is my humble request to kindly help me with the arrangements required for travel and stay in Paris for the mentioned period.
Below I have attached the necessary documents related to competition. let me know if any additional information is required. I will be looking forward to hearing back from you with a positive response.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Regards,

| Criterion | Band |
|---|---|

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the reason for your request, outlined a plan for your workload coverage, and made a polite request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the justification regarding the 'Fashion Pavilion Design' competition. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation of how the work will be done is slightly more detailed, as the current mention of 'providing autonomy to Elsa' is a bit brief. Overall, the response is purposeful and fully satisfies the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In order to', and 'Thus' to link your ideas effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the reader can easily follow your argument. To improve further, ensure that your referencing remains consistent; for example, ensure that the transition between the competition details and the delegation of tasks feels slightly more integrated to enhance the flow between paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary suitable for a professional context, such as 'prerequisite', 'vicinity', 'autonomy', and 'consultant'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in a excellent health' (should be 'in excellent health') and 'the flaw is not disrupted' (likely meant 'the workflow is not disrupted'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do highlight a need for more precise word selection. Expanding your use of professional collocations will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'atleast' (should be 'at least'), 'aa a senior consultant' (typo for 'as'), and 'let me know' (should be capitalized as it starts a new sentence). While these errors are noticeable, they do not cause confusion for the reader. Your control over complex sentences is generally good, but ensure you proofread for minor punctuation and spelling errors to ensure the majority of your sentences remain error-free.
