Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear John,
I am writing to express my interest in spending six-months working at our company's head office in another country.
Firstly, I would like to gain valuable experience by work at the head office and increase my professional skills. Moreover, I will learn from senior professionals that how to overcome any pending issue. Not only this, it will also enhance my knowledge to working in fast paced environment.
While upon my unavailability, I can work remotely and carry out my duties without affecting the team's production. In the mean time, I will be in touch with my team through Zoom app.
I would be grateful if you could make the necessary arrangements for this temporary transfer. Lastly, if possible please arrange the accommodation upon arrived there.
I would really appreciate it if you could consider my request. Thanks you for your time and consideration.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state the purpose of the request, explain how your work will be managed remotely, and ask for assistance with the transfer and accommodation. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, explaining how you will manage your workload could be more detailed to reassure your manager. While the task is fully addressed, the depth of the explanation is limited, which keeps this at a solid level for a general task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'In the mean time' to link your ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition in the second paragraph regarding 'pending issues' is slightly abrupt. Overall, the message is easy to follow and the structure is coherent.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using terms like 'professional skills', 'fast paced environment', and 'temporary transfer'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'work at the head office' (should be 'working') and 'upon arrived there' (should be 'upon arrival'). While you attempt to use more sophisticated language, these small inaccuracies prevent a higher score. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'learn from senior professionals that how to overcome' (the 'that' is unnecessary) and 'While upon my unavailability' (which is awkward phrasing). Additionally, 'Thanks you' contains a minor error. Despite these mistakes, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter, and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentence structures are grammatically sound.
