Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: explaining the motivation, proposing a handover plan, and requesting assistance. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. The explanation for wanting to work at the head office is clear but relies on simple reasoning. The plan for the workload is mentioned, but lacks detail regarding how the transition will be managed or how the quality of work will be maintained. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal request, though the opening is slightly informal. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the professional benefits for the company, not just yourself, and provide a more structured plan for the handover.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited. The sentences are often joined by simple conjunctions like 'and' or 'while', and there is a lack of varied linking words to connect ideas more fluidly. For example, the transition between the motivation and the handover plan is abrupt. Improving the use of transition signals such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in addition' would help create a more professional flow and improve the overall structure of the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. Phrases like 'doing good', 'shift me', and 'work from behind' are either grammatically incorrect or lack the professional register required for a formal business letter. While the meaning is clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little attempt to use more precise or sophisticated terminology related to business or professional development. To improve, focus on using more formal collocations and business-appropriate vocabulary to convey your request more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Issues include incorrect preposition usage ('shift me the to head office'), subject-verb agreement, and punctuation errors, such as the lack of capital letters for 'i' and the misuse of commas to create run-on sentences. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. Increasing the accuracy of basic sentence construction and proofreading for punctuation would significantly improve your score.
