Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Mr. Kumar,
I am Aakash Srivastav, an employee of your company and work within your team of Data Analytics. I am writing this letter to express my interest working at head office in Toronto, Canada for six months.
As you know, I am working as a Data Analyst but I have significant interest in Machine Learning. Moreover, our team require more members in this department and I believe I would be suitable candidate for this role. If I get an opportunity, I could possibly learn new skills which will eventually help us to improve our productivity and dependability from other team.
I would like to mention that I have already given the knowledge transfer to my colleague, Mr. Thomson. He will take care of my ongoing projects. Furthermore, I have also shared my credentials with him on approval of the Director our team.
I would greatly appreciate your support in arranging this temporary transfer. If you approve my request, I would be grateful if you could recommend me to the head office and help complete the necessary administrative procedures.
Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to hearing your decision.
Yours sincerely,
Aakash Srivastav

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for the transfer, provided a plan for your current workload by mentioning Mr. Thomson, and made a polite request for your manager's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are fully developed; for instance, you could have elaborated slightly more on how the skills gained in Toronto would specifically benefit the team upon your return, rather than just stating it would improve productivity. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets all requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'If I get an opportunity' to link your ideas effectively. The paragraphing is appropriate, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the request. The progression of ideas is smooth, and the reader can easily follow your line of reasoning. To improve, ensure that referencing is always precise; for example, 'dependability from other team' is slightly unclear in its connection to the previous clause.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using professional terms like 'Data Analytics', 'credentials', and 'administrative procedures'. While the vocabulary is functional and accurate, it is somewhat standard. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items. For example, instead of 'give the knowledge transfer', you could use 'facilitated a handover of my responsibilities'. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication, and the tone remains consistently professional throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences ('If I get an opportunity, I could...') and relative clauses. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free. However, there are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'work within your team of Data Analytics' (should be 'the Data Analytics team') and 'Director our team' (missing 'of'). Despite these occasional inaccuracies, your control of grammar is good, and the meaning is never obscured. Increasing the variety of complex structures would further enhance your score.
