Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. Pignatelli,
I hope you are doing well. I have spend around 10 years in our company as I joined in year 2015. Honestly, I have learned a lot under your guidance and support but currently I have feeling that I am living a stangnant life style which I would like change if I get a chance. The purpose of my writing this letter to make a request about my transfer to our head office, located in Mumbai, India for six months.
My first reason is I have spend enough amount of time working nonstop for 10 years in Canada, which is quite lenthy time for anyone who haven't take any single vacation. If I stay in Mumbai head office, I can spend sometime in my home country which can give me some mental relaxation. Not only that, I can improve myself by learning new techniques, a brand new way of thinking of doing various company's tasks, can work with varieties of people as India is diverse country. In short I am seeking change for now, and your approval can give me that.
In my absence my pending work can be done by my co-worker Sinora, I taught her all possible ways of completing unfinished tasks. I also gave her personal training so she can work efficiently. I have already informed her regarding the deadlines of all pending projects. I have my faith on her.
If you could, can you talk to the CEO of Mumbai head office about my arrival so it can make my life comfortable and easy. I really appreciate your help. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Twinkal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained the motivation for the transfer, provided a practical solution for your current workload by mentioning your colleague Sinora, and included a polite request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a professional letter to a manager. To improve, ensure that the connection between your personal desire for a change and the company's benefit is more explicitly stated, as this would strengthen the persuasive nature of your request.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Not only that,' 'In short,' and 'In my absence.' However, the flow between sentences is occasionally slightly mechanical. Some transitions could be smoother; for example, the jump from discussing your 10-year tenure to the request for a transfer could be bridged with a more sophisticated linking phrase. Overall, the progression of ideas is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. There are some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'stangnant' (stagnant), 'lenthy' (lengthy), and 'varieties of people' (a variety of people). While these do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise professional collocations, such as 'professional development' or 'delegating responsibilities' instead of 'I taught her all possible ways.'
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I have spend' (I have spent), 'who haven't take' (who hasn't taken), and 'I have my faith on her' (I have faith in her). These errors are frequent but do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of present perfect versus past simple tenses. Increasing the variety of complex structures would also help elevate your score.
