Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: the reason for the request, the plan for work coverage, and the request for assistance. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how work will be covered is quite brief, and the request for help is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about the projects you are currently handling and how your assistant will manage them, which would demonstrate a more professional and proactive approach to your manager.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'also' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For example, the transition between your desire to work in Australia and the explanation of your work coverage could be smoother. Additionally, the opening and closing salutations are slightly inconsistent; since you used a first name ('Dear Chris'), 'Yours sincerely' would be more appropriate than 'Yours faithfully'. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'career growth', 'management department', and 'grateful'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'send me in head office' is unnatural; 'transfer me to the head office' would be better. Similarly, 'send all my files through draft' is unclear. You also have minor errors like 'met' instead of 'meet'. To improve, focus on learning common collocations used in professional business correspondence to sound more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. For instance, 'I have been working for this company from seven years' should be 'for seven years'. The phrase 'I could done my work' is incorrect; it should be 'I could do my work'. Additionally, there are issues with articles, such as 'in company's head office' (should be 'in the company's head office'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your intent, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
