Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Mr Jones,
I am writing to request for the assistance regarding my proposal.
I saw the poster of volunteer program at our main office in Canada for first two quarters of year 2027 and I would like to explore the work culture from there, work with one of the finest minds and challenge myself to get out of comfort zone. Moreover, I feel the coaching and the training exercises would provide me with a broad approach to utilize both personally and professionally.
For the time being I will be away, Suzzane has expressed interest in taking over my responsibilities. I will make sure she is all set with an understanding of expectations of the position she will be leading.
Therefor, I am wondering if you are able guide me through the corporate process to register myself. I know you had an amazing experience on your journey over there, so your kind assistance would support me a lot. I promise my all outstanding tasks will be finished before I handover to Suzzane.
I wish to hear from you soon. Let me know when can we discuss further in person with this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Jay Suthar

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for the transfer, suggest a viable solution for your current workload by mentioning Suzzane, and politely request the manager's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanation of how work will be covered is slightly more detailed; for instance, mentioning a handover plan or specific documentation would strengthen the proposal. Overall, the purpose of the letter is clear, and the reader is left with no doubt about your intentions or the necessary next steps.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, ensure that referencing is precise; for example, 'with this matter' in the final paragraph is slightly awkward. Improving the variety of linking words would help the flow feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, using professional terms like 'responsibilities', 'corporate process', and 'handover'. There are some minor word choice issues, such as 'request for the assistance' (should be 'request assistance') and 'explore the work culture from there' (should be 'explore the work culture there'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, incorporating more precise collocations or idiomatic business expressions would elevate the response. The spelling is generally accurate throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'I saw the poster of volunteer program' (missing an article: 'a volunteer program') and 'when can we discuss' (should be 'when we can discuss'). Punctuation is generally handled well, though there is a minor error in 'Therefor' (should be 'Therefore'). Most sentences are clear and easy to understand, and the errors do not impede communication. To improve, focus on article usage and word order in indirect questions.
