Student answer (Band 5.0)

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to inform you that I want to work more 6 months in the another company.

To begin with, as i am already working in the head office, i have great knowledge and experience for the company which would be beneficial for the firm, Moreover, you have seen my growth and you know that there will be no one better than me to work on this position. I was the only one who handled the whole work ,while you were not there, i have completed all the tasks and meetings so that our company doesn’t stay behind.

In the light side, i would really appreciate that if you could help me to arranging my stay in the head office for more 6 months, if this happens I would never step back, i will be there when ever you need me for anything.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Your Faithfully.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the content is somewhat confusing. You state you are 'already working in the head office' in the second paragraph, which contradicts the prompt's instruction to ask to go to the head office. Furthermore, the explanation of how your work would be covered while you are away is missing; you instead focus on your past performance. To improve, ensure your ideas directly answer the prompt's requirements. The tone is also slightly inconsistent for a professional request, as the phrasing 'I would never step back' is unclear in this context.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive feature. However, the logical progression is hindered by the confusing content mentioned above. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with' and 'Moreover', but they are sometimes used incorrectly or in a way that does not support the flow of ideas. For example, 'In the light side' is not a standard cohesive phrase and creates confusion. The referencing is also occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow your intended meaning throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the precision and professional tone required for a formal letter to a manager. There are several awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'work more 6 months' instead of 'work for six months' and 'In the light side' instead of 'On a related note' or 'Regarding this request'. You rely on simple, repetitive language, and there is a lack of variety in your expression. To reach a higher band, focus on using more formal business-appropriate terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'work more 6 months', 'in the another company', and 'help me to arranging'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several comma splices and the misuse of lowercase 'i' instead of the capital 'I'. While you attempt some complex sentence structures, they are often marred by errors in verb tense and preposition usage. You need to focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement and capitalization.
