Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manager,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing to request you for my temporary transfer at company’s head office in Canada.

I am TINKAL DESAI, working as IT manager in your company for the past four years. My working experience is excellent until now. But as you know that my husband’s work company arranged two-three meetings with Canadian client for deal for his company . For this reasons , he has to go to there for six months and I also has to go with him as company is sponsoring spouse visa free. As I will not be able to work at our office for that six months. But I could get my work done at the head office over there in that time. And as our office is associated with that, you can contact me for any work related communications.

It’s my humble request to you that please make this arrangement for me so that I can do work for our company so that it does not ruin the work link.

Thank you for attention to this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Tinkal Desai

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You explained your motivation for the transfer, suggested how your work could be managed, and made a request for assistance. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding your husband's work is a bit informal and repetitive, and the proposal for how your work would be handled at the head office lacks professional detail. To improve, ensure that your ideas are fully extended with more formal, business-appropriate justifications. The tone is generally appropriate for a letter to a manager, though it could be more professional in its phrasing.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You use basic paragraphing to separate your ideas. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For instance, the transition 'But as you know that...' is repetitive and lacks smooth flow. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, such as in the sentence 'As I will not be able to work at our office for that six months.' Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that sentences connect more naturally would help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'temporary transfer', 'associated', and 'communications'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'ruin the work link' and 'request you for my temporary transfer' (which should be 'request a temporary transfer'). The phrasing 'work company' is also redundant. To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise business terminology and collocations that sound natural in a professional context, rather than relying on direct translations or overly simplistic phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of your writing. Examples include 'I also has to go' (subject-verb agreement), 'go to there' (preposition error), and 'Thank you for attention' (missing article). While your meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and article usage prevent the text from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring that articles and prepositions are used correctly in your future writing.
