Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I have really enjoyed working with your company for the past couple of years. to grow more with this company i really would like to gain more experience with real projects and advance skills. Interestingly, i am decided to spend half year in the head office which is in Australia.
Primarily, I want to spend my six months in another country at our company's head office so i gain skills with higher level and meet with senior and advanced employees over there.
I already make a plan that i done my work before i visit there. i can do overtime and also alter my schedule which i decline my other leisure activities so i can complete my work before i visit head office.
Apart from that, i would like to request you that if possible please arrange my schedule for that particular six months so the work in this company run smoothly without any distractions.
warm regards,
kulbir

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining your motivation, proposing a plan for your workload, and requesting assistance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, your explanation of how your work will be covered is vague; mentioning 'overtime' and 'altering your schedule' is a good start, but it lacks specific detail regarding how your current responsibilities will be managed during your six-month absence. To reach a higher band, ensure that your ideas are more fully extended and provide more concrete, professional details to support your request.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some basic cohesive devices such as 'Primarily' and 'Apart from that' to signal new points. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as the transition in the first paragraph ('Interestingly, i am decided...'). The use of referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving your use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help improve your score in this area.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your request clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'head office', 'projects', and 'schedule'. However, there are instances of word-choice errors and unnatural collocations, such as 'advance skills' instead of 'advanced skills' and 'visit there' instead of 'work there'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. To improve, try to incorporate more precise professional terminology and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for a formal letter to a manager.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently omit articles (e.g., 'in head office'), struggle with verb tenses ('i already make a plan that i done my work'), and have issues with subject-verb agreement and capitalization ('i' should be 'I'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to distract the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically verb tense consistency and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
