Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Vraj,
I am writing to express my interest to work for 6 months in the head office in New York. I recently saw the notice on the bulletin board stating they are looking for an experienced candidate to fill a spot.
I want to experience working in a different country because of how the work-life balance works there, also I am keen on exploring the new country and meeting new people. Moreover, I want to enhance my skills and work closely with the entire team so that I know how they crack deals.
If I will shift to the U.S. I will make sure I attend weekly meetings and update the sales team of the day to day deals and targets that needs to be achieved. Moreover, we can also have zoom meetings to clear doubts and also prepare an excel and word sheet which can be accessible to everyone so that all data can be updated in it which eventually will keep everyone informed.
I would really appreciate it if you could call the global department and inform them to pick me up from the airport and also make arrangements for me to accommodate for those months.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Pearl Sequeira.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for the transfer, proposed a method for managing your workload via digital tools and meetings, and requested assistance. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent for a formal business letter. Specifically, your request for the company to 'pick me up from the airport' and 'make arrangements for me to accommodate' is overly demanding and lacks the professional nuance expected in a formal request to a manager. To reach a higher band, ensure your requests are framed as professional inquiries rather than personal demands.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'If I will shift', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined. The connection between your desire to learn how the team 'crack deals' and the subsequent paragraph about your work plan is clear, but the overall progression could be smoother. Ensure that each paragraph focuses strictly on one aspect of the prompt to improve the logical flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enhance my skills' and 'work-life balance'. However, there are some inaccuracies in collocation and word choice. For example, 'make arrangements for me to accommodate' is unnatural; 'arrange my accommodation' would be more appropriate. Additionally, 'crack deals' is quite informal for a letter to a manager. To improve, focus on using more precise business terminology and ensure your word choices are appropriate for the formal context of the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as 'interest to work' (should be 'interest in working') and 'If I will shift' (should be 'If I shift' or 'If I were to shift'). Furthermore, 'targets that needs to be achieved' contains a subject-verb agreement error ('needs' should be 'need'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading of verb tenses and agreement rules.
