Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Alex,
I hope you are doing well.
I am writing this to express my interest in working at the company's head office in Germany. I would like to spend at least six months from Jan 2027 to July 2027 to learn about the organization work ethics and other essential skills.
I would like to work in the head office to gain a deeper understanding about the Project workflows, tools and culture. This experience would be particularly valuable because our local office is planning to launch a major project next year. As a result, I will bring back the knowledge back and teach to our team, making everyone more efficient and productive.
I will be working on my daily schedules and deliver my tasks, this is the extra accountability I am taking to produce better results. However, I have asked my colleagues as well to help with local tasks that need a person on-site.
I want to ensure that I will be fully responsible for my task, while I am away. I kindly request you to please find out the internal process and the approval from the HR team to cover up all the expenses.
I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Anuj Sood

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain your motivation for the transfer, propose a plan for your current workload, and request assistance with the administrative process. The tone is appropriate for a professional request to a manager. The ideas are relevant and well-developed, particularly the justification regarding the upcoming project launch. To reach a higher band, ensure that the request for help is more specific; for instance, you could ask for a meeting to discuss the logistics rather than just asking the manager to find out the internal process, which sounds slightly demanding.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the request, which makes the letter easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'As a result' and 'However', to link your ideas. To improve, try to vary your transitions further and ensure that the connection between your daily schedule and the delegation of tasks is more seamless. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure follows the standard conventions of a formal letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'organization work ethics', 'Project workflows', and 'extra accountability'. While the vocabulary is functional and clear, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'cover up all the expenses' (which sounds like hiding costs rather than seeking reimbursement) and 'teach to our team' (which should be 'teach our team'). Expanding your repertoire of professional collocations would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is generally effective. However, there are several grammatical slips that occur throughout the text. For example, 'I will bring back the knowledge back' is redundant, and 'I have asked my colleagues as well to help' is slightly awkward in its placement. Additionally, 'the approval from the HR team to cover up all the expenses' is a sentence fragment rather than a complete request. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the writing from reaching a higher band of accuracy.
