Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

I am writing to express my interest in working for 6 month in our company's head office which is situated in Singapore. I would like to request your assistance in accommodating my request at your most suitable time.

It's been almost 3 years now that I am working as quality assurance officer in this company. However, there are certain issues which I am facing in dealing with handling of the quality parameters at molecule level in most of our product line. In addition, I have heard and learn form CEO that at head office there are molecular experiments being teach by company's top scientist. Furthermore, if I would attend this experiments and training I could easily rectify and solve the issues and bring in the better results in growth of our firm.

I have made all necessary arrangement about taking care of my current work at this office. Moreover, Richard will take care of my role and responsibilities along with my daily task lists. I would greatly appreciate you if you could help me in arranging my training visit to Singapore. Should you have any further questions, please feel free to get in touch via phone call. My cell is [redacted phone].

Yours faithfully,

Foram P.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain the motivation for the transfer (learning molecular experiments), describe how the workload will be managed (Richard covering your tasks), and include a polite request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a professional context, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the outset. To improve, you could provide slightly more detail regarding the specific benefits to the company to make the proposal even more persuasive, but overall, the task requirements are fully met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You use cohesive devices such as 'In addition,' 'Furthermore,' and 'Moreover' to link your ideas. While the flow is generally good, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas—from the reason for the request to the logistical arrangements—is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, ensure that the connection between sentences is more fluid and less reliant on standard linking phrases.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'rectify,' 'accommodating,' and 'responsibilities.' However, there are some noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'molecular experiments being teach' (should be 'taught') and 'bring in the better results' (should be 'achieve better results'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your range of professional collocations and focusing on accurate verb forms will help improve your score in this area.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'if I would attend... I could easily rectify.' However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, including 'It's been almost 3 years now that I am working' (should be 'have been working'), 'learn form CEO' (should be 'learned from the CEO'), and 'I would greatly appreciate you if you could' (should be 'I would greatly appreciate it if you could'). While these errors are frequent, they rarely cause confusion for the reader. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and tense consistency will significantly improve your accuracy.
