Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr.Smith,
I writing to request your approval for allowing me to work from our company head office located in Singapore.
As you know my tenure in this organisation already crossed six years as a Senior Credit Control Officer and now I am very keen to learn leadership skills in terms of managing the clients, bigger projects and people management. I also believe that this opportunity would fetches me to work with the other county work culture, build more connections with the co-workers and also foster my confidence to achieve my long term goal. Additionally, I am very definite that this might help our team to inculcate better bonding and understand the others working technique, once I turn.
About the work management, I still can manage working remotely and always available virtually for any important updates and work related concerns. I can also train one of our team member in case of physician assistance required.
Finally, I would highly appreciate if you can give me permission to work at head office. Kindly confirm once you discuss with the management and HR team regarding my proposal and arrange required formalities to be completed.
I hope to receive favourable response from you.
Yours sincerely,
Anjali Reddy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained your motivation for wanting to work at the head office, proposed a plan for managing your current workload, and included a polite request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. To reach a higher band, ensure your ideas are more fully developed. For instance, when discussing how your work will be covered, you mention training a team member, but clarifying how you will maintain oversight or handover specific responsibilities would make your proposal more persuasive and professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally' and 'Finally' to link your ideas. However, the progression between sentences is occasionally slightly disjointed. For example, the transition from discussing your long-term goals to the logistics of remote work could be smoother. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different requirements of the task, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. Overall, the organization is clear and serves the purpose of the letter well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using professional terms like 'tenure', 'organisation', and 'formalities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the natural flow. For example, 'fetches me to work' is incorrect; 'enables me to experience' would be more natural. Similarly, 'inculcate better bonding' is not the standard collocation for team relationships. While your meaning is always clear, increasing your precision with collocations and avoiding slightly awkward phrasing will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'I writing to request' is missing the auxiliary verb 'am', and 'this opportunity would fetches me' contains a subject-verb agreement error. Additionally, 'once I turn' is unclear and likely meant 'once I return'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic verb tense and agreement errors will significantly improve your accuracy.
