Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Mr.Smith,

I am writing this letter to request your approval to allow me working from our company head office in Singapore.

As you are aware, for past four years I have been working with this the company, now I believe that working from the head office would allow me to foster my professional career. Because this would enhance my confidence level, build better team connection with seniors, understand the operations management,

and admire other leadership skills. I am also very certain that, my short-term visit to the head office could render positive changes in our local team.

While I am away, my work responsibilities can be still managed without any concerns or escalations. Most of my work will be handled online and for any required physical assistance, I am willing to train any one of our team members. However, I am always available virtually for any support that required.

Finally, I would be greatfull to you if you could arrange further facilities after discussing with the Human Resources and Singapore management team. Also, I appreciate your advices regarding the other formalities.

Yours sincerely,

Anjali Reddy

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter meets the requirements of the task by explaining the reasons for wanting to work at the head office and suggesting how work responsibilities can be managed in absence. However, it could have included more specific details about how the visit would benefit both the writer's career and the company in a broader sense. Additionally, the request for assistance could have been articulated more clearly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

Coherence and cohesion are present in the letter, as ideas are generally organized in a logical way. However, the transition between ideas could be improved. For instance, the connection between personal growth and benefits to the local team could have been made clearer. Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, leading to a minor disruption in flow, such as "this the company" which should be more directly coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The lexical resource shows an adequate range of vocabulary, such as "foster," "operations management," and "leadership skills." However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and minor errors that affect clarity, such as "I would be greatfull" (should be "grateful"). More precise vocabulary could enhance the overall quality of the letter.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

Grammatical range and accuracy are reasonable, but there are several noticeable issues. For example, the phrase "to allow me working" should be "to allow me to work," and "any one of our team members" should be corrected to "anyone." The letter contains some grammatical errors and awkward constructions that detract from its professionalism, but the general meaning is still clear.

Overall feedback

Your letter effectively addresses the task requirements and demonstrates a good level of professionalism. Strengths include a clear request for support and a logical structure. However, to improve, focus on enhancing coherence by better connecting ideas, using more precise vocabulary, and correcting grammatical errors. Pay attention to phrasing and transition phrases that maintain the flow of your requests and reasons. Practicing these elements can elevate your scores in coherence, cohesion, and grammatical accuracy.
