Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request the opportunity to work at our company's head office in Austrailia for six months to contribute more effectively to the company's team.
I want to work in the company's head office for six months because I believe it will be helpful to improve my professional skills. However, it can also help me to understand our international operations.
While I am away, I will complete the company's important tasks and prepare detailed handover notes. Also, my colleague will complete my tasks and can manage my daily duties. I will be available by email or video call if any urgency occurs.
I will be grateful if you could help me in arranging this by necessary arrangements in travel or transportation costs, temporary housing options, and other necessary documentation. Thank you for considering my request.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours Faithfully,
Dilpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state the purpose of the request, explain how your workload will be managed, and ask for assistance with logistics. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention that your colleague will manage your duties, providing a bit more detail on how this transition would be handled would have strengthened the response. Overall, the task is fully addressed, and the purpose is clear throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Also', and 'While I am away' to link your ideas. The progression of information is easy to follow. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the transition between sentences feels more natural rather than mechanical.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contribute more effectively', 'international operations', and 'handover notes'. There is a minor spelling error ('Austrailia' instead of 'Australia'). The vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for a professional context. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations or slightly more sophisticated business terminology to demonstrate a wider range of lexical control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I am writing this letter to request...' and 'I will be grateful if you could help me...'. Most sentences are error-free, and your meaning is always clear. There are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrasing (e.g., 'by necessary arrangements' should be 'with the necessary arrangements'). These errors do not impede communication. Increasing the use of more complex grammatical structures, such as passive voice or conditional clauses, would enhance your score.
