Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request the opportunity to spend some time working in our head office in Canada.
I want to gain some international experience and learn new skills while working there that can help me to contribute more effectively when I return. Moreover, working with colleagues from different countries can improve my knowledge about company's international operations.
I can complete some tasks remotely when I will away and some of my co-workers can handle my duties. Furthermore, I will provide a detailed handover before leaving and will attend all the meetings through video call. Apart from that, I wil lalways be available to answer all the important emails and will finish current projects before my departure.
I would appreciate if you could approve my six month placement in our head office by talking to the head office manager and arrange my transfer.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Amandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain the motivation for the transfer (gaining international experience and skills), outline a plan for your current workload (handover, remote work, and video calls), and make a polite request for the manager's assistance. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. The ideas are relevant and sufficiently developed to meet the task requirements. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail regarding the 'current projects' or the nature of the 'new skills' you hope to acquire to make the proposal more persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'Apart from that' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for a professional context, using terms like 'international operations', 'handover', and 'placement'. There is an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and repetitive phrasing. For example, 'improve my knowledge about company's' is missing an article ('the'), and 'wil lalways' contains a typo. While the vocabulary is sufficient for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or professional terminology would help elevate the response to a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound, such as 'I am writing this letter to request the opportunity...'. There are a few grammatical slips, such as 'when I will away' (should be 'when I am away') and the missing article in 'about company's international operations'. Punctuation is generally accurate, though the typo 'wil lalways' is a minor distraction. The errors present do not impede communication, but more consistent control over complex structures would be beneficial.
