Student answer (Band 6.5)

Hello Karan,

I hope you are doing well!

Thank you for being an exceptional and motivated leader. I would like to request you for referring me to the accounting assistant position at the head office in London, United Kingdom. Actually, I just checked the company's internal hiring portal where I have found the above position. If my educational qualifications, performance and experience are competent enough for this position, then kindly, refer me to the director Mr. Wilson for this position.

Moreover, this position is seasonal parttime for 6 months, so I can also continue my current position remotely. I want to apply for this position because of below reasons. Firstly, I can get exposure to such huge administrative team at head office. Further, new techniques or methods of that office will be used at our current office which will boost the performance pace and confidence. They also provide competitive salary and the foreign experience that I will get from that position will play imperative role in my career. Hence, please provide me the reference letter either through text message on registered mobile number or email me on [redacted email]. Thank you for your time!

Kind Regards,

Devam Modi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task: explaining the reason for the request, proposing a solution for your current workload, and asking for assistance. However, the tone is slightly inconsistent; while it is a formal request, the phrasing 'I would like to request you for referring me' is unnatural. Additionally, the request to send a reference letter via text message is somewhat informal for a professional context. To reach a higher band, ensure that the tone remains consistently professional throughout and that the connection between your current role and the new position is explained with more clarity regarding the 'six-month' duration.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Firstly', and 'Hence' to guide the reader. However, the transition between the request for the position and the explanation of why you want it is a bit abrupt. The use of 'below reasons' is slightly mechanical and could be improved by using more natural signposting language. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, and the paragraphing is appropriate for a formal letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your meaning clearly. Phrases like 'educational qualifications', 'competitive salary', and 'imperative role' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in collocation and word choice, such as 'request you for referring me' (should be 'request that you refer me') and 'huge administrative team' (which sounds slightly informal; 'large' or 'extensive' would be better). The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional 'If my educational qualifications... are competent enough... then kindly, refer me'. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'seasonal parttime' (should be 'part-time') and 'the above position' (which is slightly awkward in this context). Punctuation is generally functional, though the comma usage after 'kindly' is unnecessary. The majority of your sentences are error-free, but the control over complex structures could be more refined.
