Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr.Ram,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to request for working in our main office in the UK for six months.
I would like to work there because I wanted to learn and operate different modalities such as 7 Tesla MRI and Fluoroscopy, to improve my skills and I will be happy to teach what I learned to my fellow co-workers since those modalities are not available in our country.
My colleague Suresh has accepted to undertake my job while I am away. I also informed him to send some of the images of CT and MRI scans to me so that I can report it if my colleague feel the duty is overwhelmed.
I kindly request you to ask permission from CEO of our company to allow me for my trip and also inform him that he will not be regretted by his decision.
Yours sincerely,
Rajesh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state the purpose of the request (learning new MRI modalities), explain the coverage plan (Suresh taking over duties), and ask for assistance in the approval process. The tone is appropriate for a formal business letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the explanation of how your work will be covered is a bit vague regarding the 'reporting' aspect, and the request to the CEO could be phrased more professionally to ensure the tone remains persuasive rather than demanding.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each requirement, and a formal closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific point, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices like 'because', 'since', and 'also', which function well. To reach a higher band, you could incorporate a wider range of linking words or transition phrases to connect your ideas more fluidly, such as 'Furthermore' or 'In addition to this', rather than relying on simple sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using specific terms like 'modalities', 'Fluoroscopy', and 'CT scans'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'if my colleague feel the duty is overwhelmed' (should be 'if my colleague feels the workload is overwhelming') and 'he will not be regretted by his decision' (which is an unnatural collocation; 'he will not regret his decision' is better). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'request for working' (should be 'request to work'), 'I also informed him to send' (should be 'I have also asked him to send'), and 'if my colleague feel' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on verb patterns (e.g., 'request to do' vs 'request for doing') and consistent tense usage.
