Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Manager,
I am writing to request the opportunity to spend six months working at our company's head office in another country. I believe that it would be extremely valuable for both my professional development and the company.
I would particularly like to work at the head office because it would allow me to gain first-hand experience of how our international operations are managed. I would also have the opportunity to work closely with senior collegues, learn about different business practices and develop a better understanding of the company's global strategy. I am confident that these skills would enable me to make a greater contribution to our team when i return.
While I am away, I can continue to complete most of my responsibilities remotely. I can attend meetings through video conferencing, respond to emails and prepare reports online. For tasks that required my physical presence, I would be happy to train a collegue beforehand and provide detailed instructions to ensure that there is no distruption.
I would also be grateful for your assistance with the visa process. In particular, I would appreciate it if you could provide an official letter confirming my employment, the purpose and duration of my assignment, and the company's support for my temporary transfer.
Thank you for considering my request. I would be grateful for the opportunity to discuss this proposal with you at your convenience.
Your sincerely,
Hani Prajapati

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter fully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain the motivation for the transfer, provide a logical plan for managing your current workload remotely, and make a polite, specific request for assistance with the visa process. The tone is consistently professional and appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. The ideas are well-developed and the purpose of the letter is clear from the opening paragraph. You have successfully covered all requirements of the task with a professional and persuasive approach.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear logical progression. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the request, which makes the information easy to follow. You use a range of cohesive devices effectively, such as 'While I am away', 'In particular', and 'For tasks that required'. The transition between paragraphs is smooth, and the structure follows standard formal letter conventions. The use of paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall flow of ideas is coherent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a professional context, such as 'professional development', 'global strategy', and 'temporary transfer'. There are a few minor spelling errors, such as 'collegues' (colleagues) and 'distruption' (disruption), which are occasional slips rather than systematic errors. The word choice is generally precise and fits the formal tone required for this task. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your ideas clearly and effectively without any ambiguity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.5
You use a variety of complex sentence structures effectively, such as conditional sentences ('If you could provide...') and subordinate clauses ('While I am away, I can...'). The grammar is generally accurate, with only a few minor slips, such as the lowercase 'i' in 'when i return' and the tense inconsistency in 'For tasks that required' (should be 'require'). These errors are infrequent and do not impede communication. The majority of your sentences are error-free, showing good control over complex grammatical forms.
