Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr Mehta,
I am writing this letter to inform you about my interest in working in our head office in another country.
I really want to work in our head office because i have heard so much about that office that people there have so much talent and knowledge. In addition, i want to experience to work with thousands of employees together. Moreover, i do want to work and travel to another country.
While I will be away in the head office I will arrange my whole work life balance as I was doing before. I will try to be punctual and complete my work by due. Since I will be in different office I will put someone else in my place as a replacement so evething goes smoothly.
I would love to ask for your help to arrange this for me. Thank you for your help.
Yours faithfully,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have addressed all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explained your motivation for the transfer, touched upon how your workload would be managed, and requested assistance. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. For instance, the explanation of how your work will be covered is vague; stating you will 'put someone else in my place' lacks the professional detail expected in a business context. To improve, provide more concrete examples of how your current projects will be handed over or how you will maintain communication with your team. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be more professional.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear opening and closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'While I will be away'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the paragraphing is slightly underdeveloped. The transition between your motivation and the logistical arrangements is abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that connects smoothly to the next. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be more sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic. Phrases like 'I really want to work' and 'I would love to ask for your help' are functional but lack the professional precision required for a formal business request. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'experience to work' (should be 'experience working') and 'complete my work by due' (should be 'by the deadline'). To improve, incorporate more professional terminology related to business operations, such as 'professional development', 'delegation of responsibilities', or 'seamless transition'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are several recurring grammatical errors, such as the failure to capitalize the pronoun 'I' in the second paragraph ('i have heard', 'i want to experience'). There are also issues with article usage and prepositional phrasing, such as 'in different office' (should be 'in a different office'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall fluency of the text. Focus on proofreading for basic capitalization and article consistency.
