Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing this letter to request you to take the permission to work in our company's head office in other country for six months.
I really want to work in company's head office in order to gain more experience and hands on work. I think that this is an amazing opportunity for me as I will gain experience of other country and see how the things work over there. Eventhough, this will be a positive step for my future and company as well.
I know this will be quite difficult for the team to manage the things, but I will also be available through the team meetings or messages. I will try to manage the meeting onboard and if there will be any important meeting or project, I can visit for week or so.
I would really appreciate if you can help me in arranging everything for the transfer for at least six months. I need your approval so that I can apply for the position and grab this opportunity.
I hope you understand and help me in achieving my childhood dream of working in other country. I shall be really thankful to you.
Yours Sincerely,
Gunveer Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly explain your motivation for the transfer, suggest a plan for managing your current workload, and request assistance from your manager. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. However, some ideas are slightly underdeveloped; for instance, the explanation of how your work will be managed is a bit vague, relying on general statements like 'manage the meeting onboard'. To reach a higher band, provide more specific details about how your responsibilities will be covered or delegated during your absence.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific requirement of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However' (though misspelled as 'Eventhough') and 'In order to', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes a bit mechanical. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that your paragraph transitions are smoother. The overall structure is clear and easy to follow, which is a strength.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'amazing opportunity' and 'gain more experience'. However, there are some issues with word choice and collocation. For example, 'take the permission' is unnatural; 'seek permission' or 'request approval' would be better. Similarly, 'manage the meeting onboard' is unclear in this context. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Focusing on more professional collocations would significantly enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'in other country' (missing article 'an'), 'manage the things' (vague phrasing), and the spelling error 'Eventhough' (should be 'Even though'). Additionally, there are minor issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will help improve your accuracy.
