Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir or madam,

I am writing this letter because I am looking to work in our head office for next half of the year where I can gain my knowledge and skills by working under the experienced employees, also I can improve quality of work outside.

Currently, my position is sales advisor in this branch and after seeing a review of whole month selling I feel like I am lacking in some areas where I need to improve. Therefore, I talked with Mr. amit shah who is working as a sales manager from last 6 years and he suggested me to ask about shorter transfer so that I can improve my skills by being with him.

However, I will still target and give service to our regular customers as I am not going to change my whole schedule so that I am able to rectify my mistakes and I will complete my daily task and give you updates regularly.

I hope you will do arrangement with my schedules and I can also work overtime if you want me to work for both the branch. I am looking forward for to your positive response.

Yours Faithfully,

Vishw Shah

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining the reason for the request, proposing a plan for your current workload, and asking for assistance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, your explanation of how your work would be covered is vague; mentioning that you will 'not change my whole schedule' is confusing in the context of moving to another country. To improve, provide more concrete details about how your current responsibilities will be managed, such as delegating tasks or using digital communication tools. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter, though it could be more professional in its structure.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your request. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Currently,' 'Therefore,' and 'However,' to link your ideas. However, the transition between the purpose of the letter and the specific request is slightly abrupt. Additionally, some sentences are a bit disjointed, such as the final sentence of the first paragraph. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas within each paragraph is smoother and more clearly connected to the main goal of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your needs clearly. You use some relevant business-related terms like 'sales advisor,' 'head office,' and 'transfer.' However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'next half of the year' (which is unnatural) and 'shorter transfer.' There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'Mr. amit shah' (capitalization) and 'both the branch' (singular/plural agreement). To improve, focus on learning common business collocations and ensure you use precise terminology for professional requests.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. Examples include 'I am looking to work' (should be 'I am writing to request'), 'working as a sales manager from last 6 years' (should be 'for the last 6 years'), and 'I am looking forward for to your positive response' (incorrect preposition usage). These errors do not prevent understanding, but they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency of your writing. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct prepositional phrases to improve your accuracy.
