Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Shitij,

I hope you are doig well. I am writing to request a temporary transfer to our head office. As discussed with you earlier, I was pursuing MBA and in the last semester, I have to go for an internship which is in London. I can continue working from our london head office simultaneously with my internship.

My internship hours are limited and I can easily manage my job there without comprimising the quality and efficiency of my work. Moreover, I believe it will be a very good exposure for me to work from head office, I will be able to advance my skills under your guidance at the head office.

It would be really helpful for me if you can arrange my temporary employment at the head office. As I can apply my technical skills learnt through my degree program and will further lerned st the univeesity.

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

Tanmeet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter covers all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the plan for managing current work, and a request for assistance. The tone is appropriate for a professional context. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of how the work will be managed is vague, stating only that hours are 'limited' without detailing how the workload will be handled or handed over. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific details about your current responsibilities and how you intend to maintain productivity while in London.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the prompt. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and repetitive. For example, the transition 'Moreover' is used, but the flow between sentences could be improved with more varied linking words. Additionally, some sentences are slightly disjointed, such as the final sentence in the third paragraph, which lacks a clear connection to the preceding thought.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the message to be conveyed clearly. There are some spelling errors, such as 'doig', 'comprimising', 'lerned', and 'univeesity', which are distracting. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited; you rely on common words like 'good' and 'help'. To improve, try to incorporate more precise professional terminology related to business and career development, such as 'professional development', 'cross-functional collaboration', or 'operational continuity'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'I was pursuing MBA' (missing an article), 'I have to go' (tense inconsistency), and 'will further lerned' (incorrect verb form). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma splices, such as in the sentence: 'Moreover, I believe it will be a very good exposure for me to work from head office, I will be able to advance my skills...'. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your score.
