Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points: the reason for the request, the plan for work coverage, and the request for assistance. However, the development of these points is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why you want to work at the head office is quite general, and the plan for covering your work lacks specific detail regarding how your current responsibilities will be managed during your absence. To improve, you should provide more concrete examples of how your professional development would benefit the company and offer a more structured plan for your workload. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, though it could be more professional.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. Phrases like 'Apart from this' and 'The foremost reason behind this' are used, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas feels a bit disjointed in places. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph flows logically into the next, creating a more cohesive narrative throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'want to dry something different' (likely meaning 'try') and 'in the different county' (likely meaning 'country'). These errors, while not impeding communication, demonstrate a limited range of vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise professional terminology and collocations. For instance, instead of 'get a new experience', consider 'gain international exposure'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you express your ideas more naturally and effectively in a professional context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('attends meetings' instead of 'attend'), missing articles ('in the different county'), and awkward sentence construction ('if get this opportunity'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb forms and sentence structure, and try to incorporate more varied, error-free complex sentences.
