Dear ................. ,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manager,

I hope you are doing well. I write this letter to inform you that I would like to work in the head office of our company which is situated in Canada.

First of all, I think that by working in the head office I can help the company to grow even more at international level. Moreover, I can develop my skills even more so that it can help the company and others employees. In addition, I could learn time management and communication skills if I would have chance to work in the head office.

However, It would be difficult for my team members to manage the tasks without me but I will arrange that with one responsible person so that could be easy not only for me but also for the company.

In conclusion, It would be very helpful for me if you could arrange my work at head office.

Sincerely,

Riddhi.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You explain the motivation for the transfer, suggest a plan for your current workload, and request assistance. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat thin. For instance, the explanation of how your work will be covered is vague; stating you will 'arrange that with one responsible person' lacks the professional detail expected in a formal business request. To improve, provide more specific examples of how your responsibilities will be delegated or how you will maintain contact with your team to ensure continuity during your absence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each serving a clear purpose. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', and 'In addition' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the second and third paragraphs is abrupt. The use of referencing is generally clear, though the structure of the final paragraph is quite brief. To achieve a higher band, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the progression of ideas feels more natural and less like a list of points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your intentions clearly. You use some appropriate business-related terms like 'head office', 'international level', and 'time management'. However, the range is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'help the company' and 'work in the head office' are used multiple times, which reduces the sophistication of the writing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations, such as 'professional development', 'operational continuity', or 'facilitate a seamless transition'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'if I would have chance' (should be 'if I were to have the chance' or 'if I have the chance') and 'others employees' (should be 'other employees'). Additionally, there is a minor punctuation error with the capitalization of 'It' in the third paragraph. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more careful proofreading and a greater focus on conditional structures and pluralization rules.
