Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to express my interest in spending six months working in our companys' head office in another country. I believe it would be highly beneficial for my professional development and my contribution to the company.
The primary reason is that working at the head office would allow me to learn company's operations and management practices. Working alongside with colleagues from different departments would provide me opportunities to develop new skills, broaden my professional experience, and establish stronger relationships with members from the head office. I believe the knowledge I would gain will be useful for my current position when I return.
Before I would leave I will ensure that my current projects are properly completed or handover to other colleague. Moreover, I will be available on video calls or messages for anything that requires my assistance.
I would appreciate your assistance and guidance for arrangements of flight tickets, accommodation, and other arrangements essential for my working at head office.
Yours sincerely,
Anshu

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter covers all three bullet points effectively. You clearly explain the professional benefits of the six-month placement, propose a reasonable plan for managing your current workload through handovers and remote availability, and ask for assistance with logistics. The tone is appropriate for a formal business request. To reach a higher band, you could provide slightly more specific detail regarding the 'new skills' you hope to acquire or the specific projects you are currently managing, which would further develop your ideas and demonstrate a more professional approach.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs addressing each prompt, and a formal closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. You use some cohesive devices like 'The primary reason is that', 'Moreover', and 'In addition', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, ensure that the progression between sentences is smoother by varying your linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the knowledge I would gain') is always precise.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional development', 'operations', and 'management practices'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Working alongside with' (should be 'Working alongside') and 'handover to other colleague' (should be 'handed over to other colleagues'). While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Using more precise collocations would enhance the professional tone of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'I believe it would be highly beneficial...' and 'Before I would leave I will ensure...'. There are some grammatical slips, such as the possessive error 'companys'' (should be 'company's') and the tense inconsistency in 'Before I would leave I will ensure' (should be 'Before I leave, I will ensure'). Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the grammar does not hinder the reader's understanding of your request.
