Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Manager,
I am writing this letter to express my interest for working in a head office of our company, which is located in the U.S. It will be a time period of six month from February to August. The reason for working there is due to the gaining some expertise while meeting with the international clients to deal for the business aspects. Working with the top officials in a different environment significantly inclines the overall well being and create business mind.
My teammate Rahul will take care of my all responsibilities, and I will assign all of my tasks to him before departing from this branch. The moment I will not at the office, you can contact me by mail, I will always available for this company. By the way, we both studied together, as we totally work in a same way, you will never feel me absent at workplace.
I would appreciate if you help me by accepting my proposal to work outside the country. After getting approval from your side, I can fulfill another requirements such as booking a ticket, and collecting necessary items.
I will wait for your further response.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state the purpose of the request, explain the handover process to your colleague, and ask for the manager's assistance. The ideas are relevant and the tone is appropriate for a formal letter. However, some points could be developed with more precision; for instance, the explanation of how your work will be managed is a bit vague, and the justification for the move could be more specific regarding how it benefits the company, rather than just focusing on personal gain. Overall, the task is fully addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The reason for working there' and 'After getting approval', which help the flow. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'The moment I will not at the office'. Additionally, the referencing in the second paragraph is a bit repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'expertise', 'responsibilities', and 'proposal'. However, there are several instances of unnatural collocation and word choice errors, such as 'inclines the overall well being' and 'create business mind'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight a need for more precise usage of idiomatic expressions and professional terminology. Expanding your vocabulary to include more sophisticated business-related collocations would improve your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb forms and prepositions, such as 'interest for working', 'six month', and 'I will not at the office'. There are also issues with article usage and sentence construction, such as 'fulfill another requirements'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
