Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development is insufficient. The explanation for wanting to work in Canada is vague, and the plan for how work will be handled remotely is not clearly articulated. Furthermore, the response is significantly under the 150-word minimum, which negatively impacts the depth of the response. The tone is also inconsistent; while it is a formal request, the phrasing 'Respected manager' and the lack of professional structure suggest a misunderstanding of the required register for a business letter.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is divided into short paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas, making the text feel disjointed. For example, the transition between the request for help and the mention of the manager's role is abrupt. The use of referencing is also unclear, particularly when referring to 'the things' and 'everything', which makes the reader work too hard to understand the specific request. Better use of linking words such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in addition' would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. Basic errors in word choice, such as 'imformaing' (informing) and 'susguation' (situation), occur frequently. The student relies on simple, everyday language and struggles to use professional terminology appropriate for a business context. There is no attempt to use less common lexical items or collocations. To improve, the student needs to focus on spelling accuracy and expanding their range of business-related vocabulary to express their intentions more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('One of the companies give me'), article usage ('in head office'), and sentence structure. The punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing and missing capitalization. The response relies almost entirely on simple sentences, with very few attempts at complex structures. The errors are frequent enough to occasionally impede the reader's understanding, particularly in the second paragraph where the request for help is phrased awkwardly.
