Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Mr. Sharma.
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter to request you that I want to work in head office in London.
I want to work there because I can increase my confidence as well as experience in my field. In head office there is many employees who are from different countries and I can learn new skills such as communication and explore different cultures that would be good for my future career.
My colleague Rohan would be complete my tasks and give updates to you regarding every project. It would not be affect my absence and work. I would be explain to him about my work.
I would be appreciate if you could approve my request and would arrange accommodation for me in London. I do not have any idea about it in London.
I hope you would give me approval to work in head office for six months. I look forward to your response.
Yours faithfully,
Jagjit Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state the reason for your request (professional development and cultural exposure), explain how your workload will be managed by your colleague, and ask for assistance with the logistics. The tone is generally appropriate for a formal business letter. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, the explanation of how your work will be handled is quite brief. To improve, you could provide more detail on how you plan to hand over your current responsibilities to ensure a smooth transition during your absence. Overall, the task is addressed adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, with each paragraph focusing on a specific requirement of the prompt. There is a clear progression of ideas from the request to the explanation and finally the call to action. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. For example, you frequently start sentences with 'I' or 'I would'. Using a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases (e.g., 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', 'In addition to this') would improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs, making the writing feel more natural and sophisticated.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is sufficient to convey your message clearly, but it is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'I want to work' and 'I would be appreciate'. There are also some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'Rohan would be complete my tasks' (should be 'will complete') and 'I do not have any idea about it' (which sounds slightly unnatural in this context). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more professional, topic-specific vocabulary related to business and international assignments, and ensure that your word forms are used correctly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include incorrect verb forms, such as 'would be complete' instead of 'will complete' or 'would complete', and 'would be appreciate' instead of 'would appreciate'. Additionally, there are minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as 'In head office there is many employees' (should be 'In the head office there are many employees'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of your writing.
