Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to request for working temporarily in our head office in any another foreign country. I think it would be beneficial for my professional life and also for the company growth as well.
I am working here from several years and doing my responsibilities effectively. I want to go Singapore for working in its head office to learn and understand about our international projects process and the criteria that company follows. Meanwhile, I would follow the same process and techniques for the improvements in our office as well as teach others too.
My current responsibilities would not be affected by this because I would be connected via emails, video calls and Whatsapp with my colleagues. I will always direct them, so all urgent tasks would complete on time.
I would really appreciate if you can make the arrangements with the Singapore office for my training. I also want to tell you know that i would be happy to start work over there from next month. Thank you so much for sharing this internal opportunity with us and I would like to hear from you for the further steps as soon as possible.
Warm Regards,
Sharan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The letter covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state the purpose of the request, explain how your current workload will be managed through remote communication, and ask for assistance in the transition. The tone is appropriate for a formal business request. However, the development of ideas is somewhat basic. For instance, while you mention wanting to learn about 'international projects,' providing a specific example of a project or skill you wish to acquire would have made the request more persuasive and professional. Overall, the response is functional and addresses the task requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each serving a specific purpose. There is a clear progression of ideas from the initial request to the logistical details and finally the closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Meanwhile,' 'because,' and 'also,' which help link your sentences. However, the flow is occasionally slightly mechanical. To improve, you could use a wider variety of linking words to connect your sentences more fluidly, particularly when transitioning between your current responsibilities and the proposed remote working arrangement. Paragraphing is used appropriately throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'professional life,' 'responsibilities,' and 'arrangements.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'request for working' should be 'request to work,' and 'I also want to tell you know' is redundant and grammatically awkward. Additionally, 'any another foreign country' is slightly unnatural. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing would enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While your meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'I am working here from several years' should be 'I have been working here for several years,' and 'all urgent tasks would complete on time' should be 'would be completed on time' (passive voice). There are also minor punctuation and capitalization issues, such as 'i' instead of 'I'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do indicate a need for more consistent control over verb tenses and passive constructions.
