Student answer (Band 6.0)

dear sir

i hope you are doing welll. as you know I have been working in the head office for six months because it is part of my internship, and I will get some experience working with head. I will work with my whole heart and not disappoint you. if i work over here i can help you in your work too as i will get to know about how to manage everything when you will not here at office.

There is a lot of work pending. Some files have deadlines. Can you ask someone to do those? Aman will help with this, as we both are working on the same project; he knows everything, so you can ask him.

If Aman cannot handle everything, can you ask someone else to help him with everything? The work needs to be done by Aug 25 and sent to the head office.

Thank you

raman

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points, but the development is somewhat weak. You explain the desire to work at the head office, but the reasoning is slightly repetitive and lacks professional depth. The explanation of how work will be covered is clear, and you successfully ask for help in arranging the transfer. However, the tone is inconsistent; it shifts between informal and slightly awkward phrasing. To improve, ensure your reasons for the transfer are more persuasive and professional, and maintain a consistent, formal tone throughout the letter, as this is a request to a manager.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical. For example, the transition between the purpose of the visit and the request for help with pending files is abrupt. While you use some cohesive devices like 'if' and 'as', the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'in addition') would help connect your ideas more naturally and improve the overall logical flow of the letter.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'work with my whole heart' and 'do not disappoint you' are not standard professional collocations. You rely on simple verbs and nouns, which limits your ability to express your professional goals with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated, business-appropriate vocabulary. Focus on using precise terminology related to office management and professional development rather than relying on conversational, informal expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with punctuation, capitalization, and sentence structure. For instance, 'when you will not here at office' is grammatically incorrect and lacks a verb. You also have inconsistent capitalization (e.g., 'i', 'raman'). While the meaning is generally clear, these errors occur frequently enough to distract the reader. You should focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and pay closer attention to standard English punctuation and capitalization rules.
