Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to request you to transfer me temporarily to our company's head office in a different country. I want to work in a different environmental and professional settings.
I would like to join head office in a different country as it would be beneficial for me to gain deeper professional knowledge while working with a foreign workspace. I would be able to gain some skills for international work procedures. I would apply my learning skills in our company when I will join our company back again.
I just wanted to inform you not to worry about my pending projects since I provide all the necessary instructions in the form of written data to my colleagues and I strongly believe that they will manage everything in an effective way.
I would appreciate if you could arrange a temporary transfer for next six months to our firm's head department in another country.
I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours faithfully,
Harpreet Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The candidate has successfully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. First, the purpose of wanting to work in the head office for six months is explained in terms of gaining professional knowledge and international skills, as seen in the phrase 'it would be beneficial for me to gain deeper professional knowledge'. Second, the management of current work is addressed by stating 'I provide all the necessary instructions in the form of written data to my colleagues'. Third, a clear request for help in arranging the transfer is made. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. Ideas are relevant and developed adequately, meeting the expectations for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 in task response.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear overall progression from the opening request to the reasons, work handover plan, and final call to action. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate each distinct point, such as grouping the motivation for the transfer together and dedicating a separate paragraph to the pending projects. Cohesive devices are used, although some transitions and referencing could be smoother and more varied. For instance, repetitive structures like 'I would' appear frequently. However, the logical organisation ensures that the message is easy to follow, making this a solid performance for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating workplace concepts. Phrases like 'temporary transfer', 'pending projects', and 'professional knowledge' demonstrate functional control. However, there are some minor lexical inaccuracies and slightly unnatural phrasing, such as 'different environmental and professional settings' (where settings should be singular) and 'foreign workspace' or 'written data'. Attempts at less common vocabulary are generally successful in getting the meaning across, though they lack the precision and natural collocation found at higher band levels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over basic structures and attempting more intricate constructions such as 'I would like to join head office in a different country as it would be beneficial...'. There are some grammatical errors, notably article usage and prepositions, such as 'I would like to join head office' (missing article 'the') and awkward tense usage in 'when I will join our company back again' (should be present simple 'join'). Punctuation and sentence boundaries are generally well managed, and the errors present do not impede overall communication.
