Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Manager,
I would like to inform you that I want to work in our company's head office as to connact with high authorities of our company as well as I would like to get a office work experience in a different country.
As we know our company's head quarter is located in the USA and I got an opportunity to join an annual office meeting by our company. So, I would like to take that opportunity to do the job for next six months by staying in the office building and I would want to help our company's head office by giving my best skill works.
I would probably stay in US for six months so within that time period as both countries time is different so in the day time, I would try to finish head office's work and in the night time I will try to finish my pending work of our location's tasks.
I would be appreciated if you could arrange my six months' work schedule as per considering that I will be staying in our company's head office in the USA.
Yours sincerely,
Smit.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the writer explains the desire to work in the head office by stating 'to connact with high authorities of our company as well as I would like to get a office work experience in a different country.' Second, the candidate addresses how work will be managed: 'in the day time, I would try to finish head office's work and in the night time I will try to finish my pending work of our location's tasks.' Third, assistance is requested at the end through 'I would be appreciated if you could arrange my six months' work schedule...' While the tone is appropriate for a workplace letter, the ideas are slightly repetitive and lack full development, which places the response securely at Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear purpose established in the opening and a standard sign-off formula ('Yours sincerely, Smit'). Paragraphing is used to separate the greeting, body points, and closing, although the middle body paragraphs are somewhat dense and could be broken down further. Cohesive devices such as 'So', 'As we know', and 'within that time period' are utilized to connect ideas, but referencing is occasionally mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'I would'. Overall, the logical progression is evident, satisfying the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the student to convey their message about a work transfer. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'connact' instead of 'connect' and 'head quarter' instead of 'headquarters'. The student attempts less common phrases like 'annual office meeting' and 'high authorities', but the range remains somewhat limited and repetitive. These vocabulary limitations and minor inaccuracies place this criterion at Band 5.5, as they occasionally cause slight strain for the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at subordination using 'as', 'so', and 'that'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and awkward phrasings. For example, 'I would be appreciated if you could arrange...' uses passive voice incorrectly instead of 'I would appreciate it if...'. Additionally, run-on sentences like 'As we know our company's head quarter is located in the USA and I got an opportunity...' lack proper punctuation and control. These persistent errors in grammar and punctuation support a Band 5.5 score.
