Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sam william,
I am writing this letter to make a request to work from our head office of Toronto due to my studies.
I wanted to inform you that as i have mentioned it before that i am enrolled in a distance learning program from Uniiversity of Toronto and i have in-person training session for six months from January 2027 to June 2027 and i am going there in the last week of December. It would be really helpful if you can arrange my work from from that office.
I would be active through all team meeting and will be updating you about work through daily emails. As I am expected to work on our new project and arange all meeting schedules, I believe it can be easy for me to do all that from this distance. The projects also includes some meeting from HR our Toronto office which i would make in person there and will inform you on time. Moving further, I think working from that location would bring more opportunities to learn something new about company which would be shared with other team members by me.
I hope you will understand and make arrangment with our head office for my work and let me know if you need any further information from my side.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all bullet points required in the task instructions. You have clearly explained your reason for wanting to work in the Toronto head office, which is due to your distance learning program at the University of Toronto and your in-person training session. Furthermore, you have described how your work will be managed during your absence by remaining active in team meetings, updating the team through daily emails, and handling schedules remotely. Finally, you asked for your manager's help in arranging this transition. The tone is appropriate for a workplace letter, and the purpose is clear throughout the text, earning a solid band score for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is organised into logical paragraphs that separate your main points effectively. The introduction states your request clearly, the second paragraph details the work arrangements, and the final paragraph brings the letter to a polite close. However, there are some minor mechanical issues with cohesion and referencing, such as the slightly repetitive structure of sentences and occasional abrupt transitions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the ideas, ensuring that the reader can follow your message without confusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate vocabulary range suitable for a workplace request, using appropriate terms such as 'distance learning program', 'in-person training session', and 'opportunities to learn'. There are some word choice and collocation errors, such as 'from our head office of Toronto' instead of 'in Toronto', and 'arange all meeting schedules' which has a spelling error. While you attempt some less common lexical items, these minor inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band, though they do not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as the conditional-like structure in 'It would be really helpful if you can arrange my work...' and relative clauses like 'which would be shared with other team members by me.' There are several grammatical slips and punctuation errors, including capitalization mistakes ('Uniiversity', 'HR our Toronto office'), article omissions ('meeting from HR'), and awkward phrasing ('work from from that office'). Despite these errors, meaning is generally clear and communication is not impeded.
