Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Mr. David,
I am writing to request to spend six months working in our head office in Austraila.
I am particularly interested in this because it will allow me to improve my business knowledge while working with the international team. Moreover, it would also help me to make contacts with different share holders in this comapny.
I have already ask my colleague to handle tasks carefully which is not require my presense in the office. In case of difficulties to complete any project while I am away from office, I would make sure my availibility for meeting through online call.
I would appreciate it if you could contact with manager in our head office regarding possibilities in working with them. Could you please provide me with information about when I can travel to Australia, so I could finish my pending work accordingly and hand it over to my colleague.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look froward to hearing from you soon.
Yours faithfully,
Axay Nayi

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. You successfully explain your desire to work in the head office ('to improve my business knowledge while working with the international team'), outline how your work will be managed in your absence ('ask my colleague to handle tasks carefully... online call'), and request help in arranging it ('contact with manager in our head office regarding possibilities'). The tone is appropriately formal and polite for a letter to a manager. Although there are some minor spelling and grammatical slips, the ideas are fully relevant and directly address the task requirements, aligning well with the Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter follows a clear logical organization with an appropriate opening and closing. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the distinct points of the letter, such as the purpose, the impact on current work, and the call to action. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'Moreover' and 'In case of', though referencing is occasionally slightly loose. Progression is maintained throughout, allowing the reader to easily follow your request and proposals. Overall, this demonstrates the clear logical structure expected at Band 7.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task with some attempts at less common items, such as 'share holders', 'pending work', and 'consideration'. However, there are a few noticeable spelling and word choice errors, such as 'Austraila' (Australia), 'comapny' (company), 'presense' (presence), 'availibility' (availability), and 'froward' (forward). Additionally, phrases like 'contact with manager' and 'possibilities in working' contain minor collocation inaccuracies. These errors do not impede communication, placing the response solidly at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional structures ('In case of difficulties...') and relative clauses ('tasks carefully which is not require'). There are several grammatical errors present, including tense and agreement slips like 'which is not require' (which do not require) and prepositional issues like 'contact with manager' (contact the manager). Punctuation is generally fine, but sentence structures can be slightly awkward. Because the errors occur frequently alongside correct simple and complex structures, this fits the Band 6 descriptor.
