Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The candidate addresses all three bullet points required in the prompt. First, the reason for wanting to work at the head office is explained through career goals and the desire for international exposure. Second, the arrangement for covering duties is mentioned, noting that a work assistant will handle tasks. Third, a direct request is made for the manager to arrange the transfer. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and brief, which aligns best with Band 6 descriptors where all parts are addressed, but some are slightly under-developed. The tone is appropriate for a formal business request, fulfilling the general training letter requirements effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter exhibits a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing separating the introduction, body explanation, and closing request. Basic cohesive devices are used, such as 'Furthermore' and 'In view of the above', although referencing and spacing around punctuation are occasionally faulty (e.g., spaces before commas and periods). Paragraphing is utilised sufficiently, but the logical progression is at times mechanical. While the flow is adequate for a reader to follow the writer's intent easily, these mechanical errors and slightly basic transitions prevent the response from reaching a higher band. Overall, the structure is clear and meets Band 6 expectations.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common items such as 'international exposure', 'career goals', and 'laurels'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as saying the opportunity will be 'very grateful' instead of 'very beneficial' or 'gratefully received', and 'achieve the laurels to our company' which is unnatural. Spelling is generally correct, but mechanical spacing errors occur frequently around punctuation marks. The lexical range is sufficient to convey the message, but the aforementioned errors in word collocation place this response securely at Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I believe that this opportunity will be...' and 'when i will be working in another country headoffice...'. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including lowercase 'i', missing articles ('at head office' instead of 'at the head office'), tense inconsistencies ('when i will be working... headoffice, my work place willbe handled'), and spacing issues before punctuation. Despite these errors, communication is rarely impeded, and the meaning remains clear. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors reflects Band 6 performance.
