Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this regarding the reason why I wish to work at the head office overseas. This is because I want to gain international work experience and improve my understanding on the company's global operations.
I wish to suggest how my work will be carried out while I am away. I will continue doing my current job remotely. I will attend virtual meetings using emails, video calls and online communication platforms. For example, I can communicate to most of my team members online and if they should be a need for physical presence I will plead with a colleague to stand in for me.
Furthermore, I am pleading to get your approval. I would apprectiate your help with contacting the head office and discuss with the regional manager. I would aslo appreciate if there's an arrangement for my accomodation from they company.
I would be glad if my request is given due consideration.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Felix Chiegena

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the writer explains the desire to gain international experience by stating, 'This is because I want to gain international work experience and improve my understanding on the company's global operations.' Second, the letter addresses how the work will be carried out remotely using digital platforms, and even offers a practical backup solution involving colleagues: 'if they should be a need for physical presence I will plead with a colleague to stand in for me.' Finally, the writer asks for help in arranging the transfer and accommodation. The tone is appropriately formal for a business communication, and all parts of the task are adequately addressed, positioning the response firmly at Band 6.5 to 7.0. Given the clarity of all objectives, a Band 7.0 is awarded.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter exhibits a clear logical progression, moving naturally from the purpose of the letter to the work arrangements, and finally to the request for assistance. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, with clear paragraph breaks for each main point. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, such as 'Furthermore' to introduce the final request. However, some referencing and cohesive links are slightly repetitive or mechanical, such as starting consecutive sentences with 'I will' or 'I would'. Despite these minor stylistic limitations, the overall organization is clear and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.5, rounded to a solid Band 7.0 for clear overall progression.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating business-related terms such as 'global operations', 'remotely', and 'virtual meetings'. There are attempts at less common phrasing, such as 'due consideration' and 'international work experience'. However, there are a few lexical and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'understanding on' instead of 'understanding of', 'apprectiate' instead of 'appreciate', 'aslo' instead of 'also', and 'accomodation' with a double 'm'. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a Band 6 level of lexical accuracy and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I will attend virtual meetings using emails, video calls and online communication platforms' and 'I would apprectiate your help with contacting the head office and discuss with the regional manager.' There are some grammatical errors, notably the tense shift and preposition error in 'if they should be a need' (instead of 'if there should be a need') and the non-standard phrasing 'pleading to get your approval' and 'plead with a colleague'. Punctuation and sentence structures are generally controlled enough to ensure that meaning is clear throughout, aligning well with the Band 6 descriptor.
