Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Abraham,

I hope you are doing well.

I am writing to show my interest in working at the company's head office in China. I would like to be transferred to that office for a period of six months.

As you are aware of the recent 100 trucks order by one of my new clients. I am particularly interested in moving to the head office so that I can monitor all the progress in real time. It would also give me the opportunity to inform the client promptly throughtout the procedure. Moreover, in case of any problem, I will be able to deal with it without any delays. Since it is a big order, we can not take any risk from beginning until the delivery.

In the meanwhile, I have already started training two of the new internees to take over my tasks. I believe that will suffice for my absence.

I would need your help in making all the necessary arrangement possible by contacting the head office.

Yours sincerely,

Mesha

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5

You have fully covered all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You successfully explained your motivation for working in the head office by mentioning the recent large truck order and the need for real-time monitoring. You also addressed how your work would be managed during your absence by noting that you have started training two new interns to take over your responsibilities. Finally, you appropriately requested your manager's help in arranging the transfer through contact with the head office. The tone of the letter is suitably polite and professional, maintaining an appropriate style for a workplace communication. Your ideas are well-developed and fully responsive to the prompt, easily meeting the criteria for a high band score.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5

Your letter shows a clear overall progression and logical organisation. The opening greeting and initial statement of purpose immediately set the context, followed by body paragraphs that naturally transition from your reasons for the move to your contingency plan for coverage, and finally your request for assistance. You use cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In the meanwhile' appropriately to link ideas, and your paragraphing is clear and functional. Referencing is well-managed, with pronouns like 'it' and 'they' clearly linked to their antecedents. The sequencing of information makes the letter very easy to follow from start to finish.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient and generally accurate range of vocabulary appropriate for a professional workplace context, using terms like 'transferred', 'monitor', 'promptly', and 'internees'. However, there are a few minor lexical and collocational slips. For instance, the phrase 'recent 100 trucks order' contains a slight grammatical slip with the noun adjunct (it should be '100-truck order'), and you wrote 'throughtout' which is a minor spelling error. Additionally, phrases like 'take any risk' could be elevated slightly. Nevertheless, your vocabulary is varied enough to convey your precise meaning comfortably without impeding communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional structures ('in case of any problem, I will be able to deal with it') and subordinate clauses. The majority of your sentences are clear and grammatically sound. However, there are a few noticeable grammatical errors, such as the sentence fragment 'As you are aware of the recent 100 trucks order by one of my new clients,' which lacks a main clause completion, and 'we can not take any risk from beginning until the delivery' (which has a missing article before 'beginning'). Punctuation is generally accurate, and these minor errors do not impede communication.
